On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Able Seaman John Robinson Armstrong, serving on S.S. Togston (Newcastle upon Tyne) with the Merchant Navy who died 08/03/1941.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Armstrong, of Amble, Northumberland.

In Amble West Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
my dear parents
Annie Armstrong
died June 5th 1965 aged 72 years.

John Redford Armstrong
died March 7th 1966 aged 73 years.

Also my dear brother
John Robinson Armstrong
lost at sea March 8th 1941
aged 21 years.

Gone from my home
but nor from my heart.

John Robinson is remembered at Amble on A13.01, A13.06 and A13.10 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
