On the Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of 1320SD Deck Hand James Nicholson Lambie, serving on H.M. Yacht Aries with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 31/10/1915.

He was the son of John W. and Mary B. Lambie, of 170, Fort Street, South Shields.

His brothers were: David Lambie (fourth son) 4th (Northumbrian) Howitzer Battery R.F.A.; John Lambie (fifth son) 1st/7th Bn. D.L.I.; Benjamin Lambie (Royal Navy) and David Lambie.

James’s birth was registered in South Shields (September quarter 1897).

He was awarded the 1914-5 Star.

He is believed to have drowned when H.M. Yacht Aries, auxiliary patrol, was mined and sunk in the Dover Straits.

James Nicholson Lambie is remembered at South Shields on S86.126 and S86.143 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
