On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of C/JX 133574 Yeoman of Signals Jarvis Johnson Ridley Leaske, serving  on H.M.S. Crispin with the Royal Navy who died 04/02/1941.

Jarvis Johnson Ridley Leaske was born on the 5th September 1913, at Teesdale, Co Durham and died at sea on the 4th February 1941. He was an Acting Yeoman of Signals aboard the HMS Crispin. HMS Crispin was an Ocean boarding vessel, 5,051 tons, based at Liverpool.

At 23.33 hours on the 3rd February 1941, HMS Crispin was torpedoed in the engine room by one torpedo from a German U Boat U 107, commanded by Fregattenkapitän Günter Hessler, north-northwest of Rockall. The ship was just detached from the dispersed convoy OB-280 together with HMS Arbutus (K 86) (Lt Cdr H. Lloyd-Williams, RNVR), the British armed yacht HMS Philante and the British rescue ship Copeland, ship number 147874, to join convoy SC-20 on the 4th February . HMS Crispin was abandoned and foundered the following day at 56°52N/20°22W. The commander, five officers and 14 ratings were lost. Eight survivors were picked up by the rescue ship and the remaining survivors by HMS Harvester and landed at Liverpool.
