On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Apprentice John Joseph Embleton, serving S.S. Ceramic with the Merchant Navy who died 07/12/1942.

In Whitley Bay (Hartley South) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Rose Anna Embleton
The dearly beloved wife of John
Who died 13th April 1948

Also of their son
Joseph Embleton
Lost at sea 6 Dec. 1942 aged 19 yrs.

R.I.P.

CWGC gives his age as 29 years the headstone and other records agree 19 years.

John Joseph Embleton is remembered at Whitley Bay on W84.01 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
