In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Second Hand James Wood, serving on H.M. Trawler Ruthin Castle with the Royal Naval Reserve who died 21/04/1917.

The headstone reads:

In loving memory
of
James
beloved husband of
Jane I. Wood
killed on active service on H.M. Minesweeper
Ruthin Castle
April 21st 1917, aged 35 years.

Thy will be done.

He was born at Birkenhead, the son of John and Mary Wood. He was married to Jane Isabel Johnson (formerly Wood), of 79, Park Crescent, North Shields

James Wood is remembered in North Shields on N34.22 and N34.77 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
