On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/SSX 25199 Able Seaman John Thirtle, serving on H.M.S. Acasta with the Royal Navy who died 08/06/1940.

The son of Elijah and Margaret Thirtle, of Pelton Fell, Co. Durham.

His brother Robert also died in WW2.
