On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/SSX 25199 Able Seaman John Thirtle, serving on H.M.S. Acasta with the Royal Navy who died 08/06/1940.

The son of Elijah and Margaret Thirtle, of Pelton Fell, Co. Durham.

His brother Robert also died in WW2.

John Thirtle is remembered at Pelton Fell on P27.01, at Chester le Street on C105.05, C105.38 and C105.40 and  in our List of Ships’ Crews.
