On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of 160830 Petty Officer John Connelly, serving on H.M.S. Queen Mary with the Royal Navy, who died 31/05/1916.
The son of the late Michael and Amelia Connelly, of Sunderland.

160830 Petty Officer Connelly John Royal Navy HMS Queen Mary
Whilst serving on HMS Euryalus he was Initiated into United Service Lodge No 1428, Portsmouth on the 23rd February 1909; Passed 29th April 1909 and Raised on the 29th July 1909.
He died at the Battle of Jutland on the 31st May 1916 aged 42. He is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire Panel 11.
H.M.S. Queen Mary was a battle cruiser built by Palmers at Hebburn on Tyne and launched in 1912. She received a direct hit from the German ships Seydlitz and Derfflinger and blew up with the loss of 1266 crew with only nine survivors.
