The son of George and Grace Banks and the husband of Bertha Evelyn Banks, of Percy Main, North Shields, Northumberland.

In Preston Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In proud memory
of
Joseph
dearly loved only son of
Geo. J. and Grace Banks
lost at sea through enemy action
March 1941 aged 32 years.

George James,
dearly loved husband of Grace
and father of Joseph
died 1st February 1955 aged 72 years

The above Grace
died 28th April 1958 aged 73 years.
