On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Apprentice Harry Lamond Ross, serving on S.S. Heatherside (Newcastle) with the Mercantile Marine who died 24/08/1917.

The son of Susannah Ross (nee Lambert), of 26, Tyneside Avenue, Monkseaton, Northumberland, and the late Peter Kemp Ross.

In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is headstone which reads:

Harry was an apprentice (age 15), aboard SS Heatherside (Newcastle) which was an Admiralty-hired collier. It was torpedoed and sunk by U Boat U-93 on the 24th August 1917 in the Bay of Biscay. It was carrying a crew of 27, it was on a trip from Newport via Milford Haven to Malta carrying coal.

His father Peter Kemp Ross was killed in 1918.
