On the Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/JX 148611 Able Seaman Hugh Stothers, serving on H.M.S. Hood with the Royal Navy who died 24/05/1941.

Hugh Stothers was born on the 30th December 1914 at Belfast, the son of Mr and Mrs G. Stothers. He married Jennie Gardner, [born 3rd March 1913, died 1988], in 1940, she was the daughter of David Gardner and Isabella Tootell Tweddle and resided at 2 Mary Street, Hartlepool. Durham.

There was a memorial service held for him on the 8th June 1941 at the Hartlepool Independent (Congregational) Church.
