The son of Fanny Snowdon (nee Cookson), of 56, Montague Street, Hartlepool, and the late Henry Snowdon. He was born at Hartlepool.

In Hartlepool Old Cemetery (Spion Cop) is a headstone which reads:

died March 3rd 1907
aged 43 years

The British Steamer S.S. Romford, ship number 108400, was mined 2.5 miles East of Cape Carthage, on a voyage from Barry & Tunis to Bizerta carrying phosphates, on the 10th February 1918. 28 Casualties.
