In Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, Belgium  is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant Harry Atkinson, serving with the 155th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery who died 28/09/1917.

The son of the late Robert and A. P. Atkinson, of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Obituary: Harry Atkinson

Harry Atkinson, Second-Lieutenant, R.G.A., born at Bradford on the 12th February, 1882, was killed in action in France on the 28th September, 1917. Educated at Rutherford College and Durham of Science, he served an apprenticeship with Messrs. Robert Stephenson, Newcastle, at the termination of which he entered the service of the Newcastle upon Tyne Electric Supply Company, in which he remained for four-and-a-half years. For eight years previous to his joining the Army in March, 1916, he was the local district engineer in the employ of Messrs. Mouchel & Partners, Ltd., in which capacity he carried out a number of important contracts.

He entered the Army as a gunner in the R.G.A., and was soon promoted to the rank of corporal. He obtained a commission in December, 1916, and was sent to France in February, 1917, he being posted to the 155th Siege Battery.

Mr. Atkinson was elected a Graduate of the Institution in November, 1901, and was transferred to Associate Member in February, 1908.
