George Wellden was born on 8th October 1918, the son of James Ellis and Mary Hay (nee McIntyre), of 66 Grenville Road, Gosforth He was the husband of Doris Maud Hay (nee Marriage) of Newcastle upon Tyne, whom he married in the second quarter of 1944. Prior to enlisting he worked as a wholesale meat clerk.
