George Hutton  Kane

Every Name a Story

On the Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Greaser George Hutton Kane, serving on S.S. Zurichmoor (London)  with the Merchant Navy who died 24/05/1942.

The son of Charles and Sarah Kane and the husband of Mary Kane, of South Shields, Co. Durham.

George Hutton Kane was a crew member of the S S Zurichmoor, the vessel was hit by a torpedo from U-Boat U-432 on the 23rd May, the day before Mr. Kane died. No trace of the ship or crew were ever found.

George Hutton Kane’s sons Charles Hutton Kane and Walter Kane also died in WW2.

George Hutton Kane is remembered at Newcastle on NUT136, at Westoe in W101.08 page 45 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
