On the Tower Hill Memorial, is the name of Second Engineer George Frederick Allan Jessop, serving on S.S. Rio Colorado (London) with the Mercantile Marine who died 22/03/1917.

The son of Mrs. Jessop, of 47, Milton Street, Westoe, South Shields. He was born at South Shields.

His birth was registered in South Shields during the September Quarter of 1883.

George was the youngest son of Jonathan, a saw-mill foreman, [who was born at Kirkheaton, Yorkshire, aged 49 in 1891], and Mary Jessop of 47 Milton Street, Westoe, South Shields (in 1891, 1901 and 1911). Jonathan’s death, aged 58, was registered in South Shields during the March Quarter of 1900. Mary his wife was born in Todmorden, Yorkshire, and was 67 in 1911. Jonathan and Mary were married for 45 years and had nine children, six still living in 1911. Mary’s death, aged 80, was registered in South Shields during the March Quarter of 1924.

SS Rio Colorado (London), (Mercantile Marine), was sunk by a mine laid by UC-50 just outside of the mouth of the River Tyne. Died aged 32 or 33.
