On the Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of Warrant Engineer George Newton serving on H.M.S. Formidable with the Royal Naval Reserve  who died 01/01/1915.

In  Heworth (St. Mary) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
William
beloved husband of
Mary Ann Newton
died Dec. 8th 1913, aged 67 years.

Also George, son of the above,
who lost his life
on H.M.S. Formidable
Jan 1st 1915 aged 38 years.

Also Grace Agnes
beloved daughter of the above
William and Mary Ann
Newton
died Jan. 27th 1924, aged 24 years.

Also the above
Mary Ann Newton
died Feb. 8th 1927, aged 70 years.

Also Charles Newton,
son of the above
died March 11th 1942, aged  54 years.

 George Newton  is remembered in our List of Ships’ Crews.
