In Sunderland (Ryhope Road) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave, with a private headstone, of Able Seaman George Inglis serving on S.S. “Ilse”  with the Merchant Navy who died 20/06/1941.

 The CWGC commissioned a new headstone in 2004 due to the damage to the original memorial.

This headstone reads:

Able Seaman
S.S. “Ilse”
20th June 1941  age 22

George Inglis  is remembered at Southwick on S130.22, at Sunderland on S140.159, on the  List extracted from Peter Gibson’s book and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
