On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Chief Steward Edward Beales, serving on S.S. East Wales (Cardiff) with the Merchant Navy who died 16/12/1942.

The husband of G. M. Beales, of Seaton Sluice, Northumberland.

In Whitley Bay Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Treasured
memories of
my dear Dad & Mam

Edward Beales
lost at sea Nov. 1942

Gladys Muriel Beales
died Nov. 17th 1959
aged 55 years.

The date on the headstone is incorrect. S.S. East Wales was sunk 16th December 1942.

Edward Beales is remembered at Seaton Sluice on S9.01 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
