On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of First Engineer Elijah Barnsley, serving on S.S. Kwasind (Quebec) with the Mercantile Marine who died 11/03/1917.

He was the son of the late Charles and Hannah Barnsley and the husband of Cicely Isabella Barnsley (nee Knott), of 3, Beaumont Street, North Shields. He was born at North Shields and educated at the Ralph Gardner School.

Elijah Barnsley is remembered at North Shields on N34.77, at Tynemouth in T36.14 page 31 (where the name of his ship is mis-spelled), in the Masonic Roll of Honour 1914-18 (London) and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
