On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of Fireman David Muirhead, serving on S.S. Ostpreussen (London) with the Mercantile Marine who died 25/11/1917.

He was the husband of Mary Muirhead, of 29, St. Leonard’s Street, Sunderland. He was born in Scotland.

Pauline Priano has submitted the following;

Cargo ship S.S. Ostperussen struck a mine November 25th 1917 and sank in the North Sea 1.5 nautical miles east of Shipwash Lighthouse. Fireman David Muirhead (62) was the only casualty.

In God’s safe keeping. Rest In Peace.
