He was the son of Mary McLean and the late Charles John McLean. He married Ethel McLean, later Ethel Small, of 10 Lumsden Street, Thornaby on Tees.

Charles Edward McLean is remembered at Stockton on Tees in S138.18 page 39 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
