On Tower Hill Memorial is the name of 7th Engineer Albert Victor Turner, serving on S.S. Huntstrick (London) with the Mercantile Marine who died 08/06/1917.

The son of Ernest William and Ellen Elizabeth Turner, of “Holly Dene”, Beckingham Avenue, East Boldon, Co. Durham. He was born at Enfield.

Albert Victor Turner was the son of Ernest William Turner and his wife, Ellen Elizabeth Turner, nee Pardoe.

Albert Victor was born in Enfield on 24th June 1899 and christened at St James’ Parish church, Enfield, Middlesex. He had three sisters and three brothers. The family was living at Hebburn at the time of the 1911 census. 

At the time of his death, 8th June 1917, Victor was the 7th Engineer on board S.S.” Huntstrick “. The ship was en route from London to  Salonika, carrying troops and supplies, when the vessel was torpedoed by German U-Boat 39. Fifteen people died.

On his Commonwealth War Grave entry, it gives his home address as “Holly Dene”, Beckenham Avenue, East Boldon, but I haven’t yet found out when they moved to East Boldon. His name is recorded  on The Tower Hill Memorial, Trinity Square, London.
