On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of P/JX 298828 Ordinary Seaman Alan Selby Conn serving on HMS Algerine with the Royal Navy who died 15/11/1942.

In Christ Churchyard is a family headstone for Conn which reads:

Sweet memories of George
beloved husband of Ella Conn
died Mar. 9th 1949 aged 62 years

Their son Alan
lost at sea Nov. 15th 1942
aged 20 years

Alan Selby Conn was the son of George Walton Conn and Isabella Conn, of Chester le Street, Co. Durham.

H.M.S. Algerine was a Minesweeper of 940 tons which was sunk 15/11/1942 by torpedo off Bougie, Algeria.
