In Dunkirk Town Cemetery, France is the Commonwealth War Grave of 4063/SD Deck Hand Alfred Stephen Bellis, serving on H.M.S. Attentive with the Royal Naval Reserve, who died 10/10/1917.

The Blyth News 10/10/1921 carries the following:
Bellis In loving memory of my dear son, Alfred S. Bellis, accidentally drowned in Dunkirk Harbour, France, Oct. 10th 1917 off H.M. Motor Launch 22.
What dangers he faced I never knew
I did not see him die;
But this I know, he is gone –
Did not get time to bid me a last goodbye.
Ever remembered by his sorrowing mother.
