The son of Annie Snowdon (nee Nacey), of 68, Northcote Street, Stockton on Tees, and the late William Edward Snowdon. He was born at Thornaby on Tees.
The Steamship SS Penvearn was attacked by an U Boat U 105 commanded by Kapitnleutnant Friedrich Strackerjan, 15 miles N1/2W of the South Stack Rock, Holyhead Island, on the 1st March 1918. There were 21 casualties.
