On Portsmouth Naval Memorial is the name of K/17691 Stoker 1st Class Alfred Harrison, serving on H.M.S. Bulwark with the Royal Navy who died 26/11/1914.
The son of Alfred and Margaret Jane Harrison, of 42, Helen Street, Benwell, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Alfred was born on 06/08/1893 in Newcastle upon Tyne the son of Alfred Harrison, a grinder in an engineering works and his wife Margaret. In 1901 he was living with his parents, two brothers and three sisters at 65, Alaric Street, Benwell.
By 1911 the family had moved to 44, Helen Street, Benwell and Alfred was working as a moulder at a sanitary engineering company.
Alfred enlisted in the Royal Navy on January 15th 1913 when he was described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall with auburn hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion.
Alfred was lost on November 26th 1914 when HMS Bulwark was totally destroyed by an internal explosion at Sheerness with the loss of 792 lives.
Alfred Harrison is remembered at Benwell on B86.02, B86.09 and B86.19 and in our List of Ships’ Crews.
