This is the text of an unpublished book written by Mr J.B. Thompson about the story of R.A.F. Milfield and its satellite at Brunton. He tells of the people in charge and the men who were posted there. He lists the aircraft which were flown from this airfield, which was used to train pilots during the Second World War. There is also a diary of events from the setting up of the 59, 52 and 56 Operational Training Units, the Specialised Low Attack Instructors’ School, and the Fighter Leader School.
Included is a list of accidents which took place at Milfield, which gives the names of those involved, which should be of great use to researchers.
One or two adaptations have been made to allow any novice to understand technical terms used.
Some “Every Name A Story” pages have been created to show where the men are commemorated and these are under the Milfield heading. Some need further research.
If the person is buried in St. Gregory’s Churchyard, Kirknewton, their grave has already been photographed and the entry will be found in the “Every Name A Story” page for Kirknewton.
