Memorial Description:

Circular stained glass window.

Part of the lower half is obscured by the Parish Centre roof

The outer ring bears an abstract pattern.

In the middle circle are leaves with two cherubs bearing a scroll at the top with the words “The sea is His”.

Out of sight at the bottom is another corresponding scroll which reads “And underneath are the everlasting arms.”

In the centre circle is depicted King David, the Psalmist.

A scroll bearing the dedication is below this centre circle.

Notes:

1. Mr. Knott had been a bellringer and a member of the church choir.

2. Steamship Spennymoorof which Mr. Knott was Master, was a non-commissioned collier of 2733 tons which was sunk by a submarine off Start Point on May 28th 1915. The captain and four of the crew were lost.

DEDICATION OF A MEMORIAL WINDOW IN TYNEMOUTH PARISH CHURCH. At the morning service, yesterday, the Vicar (Rev R. E. Holmes) dedicated a window in memory of the late Mr George Knott, who for many years was a bellringer and a member of the choir there, and who lost his life through the torpedoing of the ship of which he was master. The window is the gift of the widow, and is the work of Messrs Thompson and Snee, of Gateshead. It is one of the upper lights on the north side of the church, and has an handsome effect. In the centre is represented King David the psalmist, and in addition to the necessary inscription bears the words, “The sea is His,” and “Underneath are the everlasting arms”.
