Memorial Description:

Screen over 9 feet high x 13 feet wide (2.7m x 4m).

There are three layers of panels.

The top layer has a border of vine leaves and grapes carved in half relief, the eight side panels are traceried, and the central panel bears a cross also in half relief.

Below this is the dedication carried right across the whole width of the screen, raised in half relief using elaborate lettering.

Below this is a double door with traceried panels above and linenfold panels below.

The doors each have two traceried panels with names in a single column on each.

On each side of the door are three panels, the outer ones traceried and the centre one plain but bearing names in a single column using Roman capitals.

Notes:

1. “The west porch of the old Bishop Wearmouth Church has been beautifully panelled as a memorial to the men of the church and parish who fell in the Great War”.

2. The names of St Peter’s Church members were added in 1950 to the panels after the closure of the church.
