The service opened with the singing of the National Anthem and the Exhortation, followed by the hymn ” O God Our Help,” the reading of Psalm 23 by the Vicar, and the hymn “God of our Fathers.”
The Rev. G.B. Fairhurst preached an impressive sermon.
Then followed the reading of the following 39 names by Mr E. Cairns, chairman of Cramlington Legion
Mr William Hawk (High Pit) then unveiled the memorial, and two boys from the Wellesley School, G. W. Anstee and J. S. Benton, sounded the Last Post.
The ceremony concluded with the laying of wreaths by Mrs Cook (In memory of her son. A/C M. Cook), Mrs Humphreys (in memory of her son. Lt. J.W. Humphreys) and Mr Greenwell (In memory of his son. Sgt/Nav. J. Greenwell.
