Unveiled 24th April 1949 by P.W. Shelford, former Headmaster,
and dedicated by Rev. G.H. Marshall.

In memory of the old boys of this school
who fell in the Second World War
1939-1945.

We will remember them.

Plaque 24 inches high x 48 inches wide (608 mm x 1210 mm).

At centre top is the Duke’s badge of a crown above a crescent, raised and gilded, on a blue background.

There is a narrow border, with Tudor roses raised at intervals.

The names are raised in casting, listed in five columns.

At the bottom the words “We will remember them” are raised in half relief on a cast ribbon.

All lettering is in Roman capitals throughout.

1. Besides being former Headmaster, Mr. Shelford was also Vice-president and first Life Member of the Old Boys’ Association.

2. The name of the Headmaster’s son appears on this memorial.

3. The name of J. Berry also appears in the Guinness Book of Records as having shot down the most enemy aircraft within a certain time.
