In loving memory of
Commander Henry Cecil Carr, Royal Navy,
Fourth son of the late John Carr of Roseworth, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Born August 28th 1872.
As a midshipman in the flagship “Boadicea” he served in 1890 in the Naval Brigade under the
Command of Vice-Admiral The Hon. Sir E.R. Fremantle, Commander-in-Chief East Indies for the
punitive expedition against the Sultan of Vitu and received the Africa Medal Vitu with clasp.
On March 11th 1915 he gave his Life for his Country
whilst in Command of H.M.S. “Bayano” which was torpedoed off the Firth of Clyde
with the loss of 200 lives.

This tablet is erected by his wife.

Memorial Description:

Plaque 25 inches high x 45 inches wide (64cms x 114cms).

The badge of the Royal Navy is featured at the top, underneath the words “Not as I will but as Thou wilt” incised in Gothic script.

The dedication is mainly black Roman upper and lower case,.

Details of the erection of the tablet are in sans serif capitals.
