The memorial was removed from the Grammar School at Fellside when the new school in Whetstone Road was opened in April 1965.

The school became a Comprehensive School in 1976.

in the cause of freedom.

Memorial Description:

Plaque 24 inches high x 48 inches wide (61cms x 122cms), mounted on a wood pattress.

This is the lower of two plates mounted on the same board. In the centre top of each is an embossed and enamelled copy of the school badge, with the appropriate date on either side of the badge, written in Gothic lettering.

The names are listed in three columns, with a vertical line between each column, using sans serif capitals.

1. The school motto “Spes durat avorum” translates as “The hope of the ancestors lives on”.
