Brass plaque.

Glebe Church Legacy Memorial gift in sacred remembrance of
David Marshall 1862-1948. Mary Cutter Marshall 1874-1941.
This tablet is erected by a grateful church in honour of
the seventy sons and daughters who served
the King and Country during the World War of 1939-1945.
In memoriam of those who made the supreme sacrifice.

In loving memory of those who lost their lives through enemy raids on this town
(names).

Unveiled on Sunday 24th April 1949, by His Majesty’s Home Secretary
the Right Honourable J. Chuter Ede, M.P. for South Shields.
Dedicated by the Principal of Hartley Victoria Methodist College
the Rev. Dr. Henry G. Meecham, M.A., D.D.

Plaque 24 inches high x 36 inches wide (609 mm x 914 mm).

There is a single line red border.

The names of the fallen are listed in two columns followed by the names of those who died through enemy raids in two columns.

Lettering is a mix of fonts.

1. A brass plaque tells the story of the beginnings of the church:
To the Glory of God
The first Glebe Church was built in the year 1823
and rebuilt in 1865.
The present Glebe Church and Schools were erected 1889
and the classrooms added in 1904.
Hitherto hath the Lord Helped us.

2. The classrooms were later sold to pay for the 1997 redecoration.
