Memorial Description:

Plaque 31½ inches high x 41 inches wide ( 80cms x 104cms) with slightly pointed top set on a wood pattress 3½  inches (9cms) wider all round.
There is a wide raised border of leaves.

At centre top of the border is the school badge of a fiery furnace with a ribbon bearing the words “E ferro ferrum temperatum” (“Out of iron comes forth steel”).

On the main panel the names are in three columns.

All lettering is in raised Roman capitals for the dedication and sans serif capitals for the names.

Notes:

1. The plaque was in the entrance Hall of the Consett Technical Institute, later Secondary School and then, till 1957 the Grammar School. A new school was built and the old school became the Technical College until the 1990s. It was then demolished and houses built on the site. The Grammar School is now Consett Community Sports College.

2. When the plaque was moved into the school isn’t clear. For some years it was in the entrance hall but in June 2008 it was moved into the school hall.

3. The Consett and Stanley Chronicle reports that the roll contains the names of two brothers, but that of E. Davison had yet to appear.
