Plaque 1914-18 Secondary School

Chester le Street Secondary School.

This became the Grammar School, The Deanery School and from the 1970s Park View Community School, Church Chare. DH3.

Originally in the main hall, designed to blend in with the panelling.
Now in the Link between the main school and the Community 6th form part of the school.

Unveiled 22nd October 1921 by Mr. T.F. Brass, OBE., JP., Chairman of the Governors;
dedicated by Rector, Rev. F.H. Jackson.

Bronze plaque in oak frame.

the old boys of this school who fell in the war
1914-1919

Plaque 36 inches high x 18 inches wide (91cms x 46cms) with shallow rounded centre top set into a wood pattress which echoes the shape.

The inner border of the frame is painted black.

The names are in three columns, the lettering in raised Roman capitals.

1. The newspaper report includes the name of John Ross.

2. For the unveiling, the schoolroom was decorated with white chrysanthemums and the memorial draped in mauve and white with the union flag in front.

3. The memorial has been overpainted with Hammerite bronze paint.
