Hexham Middle School, Fellside.
The plaque was erected when the hall was part of the Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. When the Grammar School moved in April 1965 to new premises in Whetstone Bridge Road, the plaque was left behind because it was in the hall and building which would have been known by those commemorated.

thankfully dedicated”.

Plaque 31 inches high x 56 inches wide (79.5cms x 142cms), with an additional strip added which measures 1 inch high x 43 inches wide (2.5cms x 109cms).
The whole is mounted on a marble pattress.
The individual dates of the years from 1914 to 1919 along the top are in Gothic script, three of each on either side of the school crest and motto.
The names are written as a continuous script with a dot between each name using black sans serif lettering.
An additional brass strip has been added on the bottom border.
113 full names.
On main plaque 7 masters and 105 scholars, 16 of whom died.
Some of the details of death or wounding are given.
On strip below 1 scholar, plus 1 amended date of death.

1. The Alnwick Gazette reports the unveiling on 25/07/1923 of a memorial in Hexham Grammar School, by Col. E.P.A. Riddell, C.M.G. It was the gift of Col. L.C. Lockhart (Chairman of Governors) and his brother, H.F. Lockhart, and records 128 names of former pupils and masters who fell.
