The old school was demolished, a new building was provided and also demolished and a third school built due to the use of high alumina content in the concrete.
The memorial was transferred to the new building

Memorial Description:

Plaque.

It is 42 inches high x 72 inches wide (107cms x 183cms) mounted on an oak frame.

The dedication at the top is in Art Deco style, as is the ornamental border which goes along the top and partly down the two sides.

In the centre at the top is a motif of a Greek man kneeling, and displaying a scroll bearing the dates “1914-1918”.

The names are in six columns in Roman upper and lower case.

Notes:

1. The memorial was taken down in 2003 to allow for redecoration in the entrance hall and replaced.

2. Hugh Cairns, a former pupil at the School, became the “Ashington V.C.”
