Sermon by Canon Dawson Walker of Durham Cathedral.

In thankfulness and to the honour of almighty
God for the victory of the British Empire and her
allies in the Great War MDCCCCXIV – MDCCCCXVIII
the people of Lanchester set up this tablet
as an enduring record of those who went out
from among them and for their country and
the cause of righteousness most gloriously
gave their lives – MDCCCCXX.

At the bottom:
Their name liveth for evermore.

Plaque of bronze coated in black lacquer, approx. 24 inches high x 36 inches wide (61cms x 91cms).

There is a patterned border of raised dots.

The wording is in a central rectangular panel with rounded corners.

In the spaces created by these corners is a raised pattern of swirling leaves.

The quotation “Their name liveth for evermore” is in the inner lower border.

Lettering is raised Roman capitals.
