Seaton Delaval Council School, later First School, Seaton Delaval.
In the Hall/Dining Room.

Transferred to new school building in 2006, rededicated by Rev. Sellars.

1914-18

Unveiled 30th September 1922 by Lady Redmayne.

Bronze in oak frame.

The land opposite the school was turned into a garden to produce vegetables for sale. Various other fund raising efforts were held.

Woodwork designed by Edwin Harrison, teacher at the School.

In grateful memory of old boys who gave their
lives in the Great War.
They had learned to play the game, and they
played it to the end.

Three panels set into a wooden surround, which has a stepped top.

In the centre of the top part of the wood frame is a red cross, crowned by a green wreath, with the words “1914-1919 Seaton Delaval Council Schools” engraved in Roman capitals on either side.

The names are listed in a single column on each of the three panels, the lettering in raised Roman capitals.

The dedication is carried in a panel in the wood frame at the bottom, the lettering in Roman capitals.

On the bottom frame, above the quotation, the name of “Ellen Gleghorn” has been added in gold leaf at a later date. It is not on older photographs.

1. Originally in 1922 fixed to the wall facing the entrance door to the school, it was thought in March 1989 to be in an unsafe condition and was taken down. It was re-erected in the Hall/Dining Room in April 1989.

2. From the school 10 were commissioned; 48 were killed; 120 were wounded; 7 won the Military medal; 2 the Long service Medal; 1 the D.C.M.; 10 the 1914-15 Star; 1 the M.C. & Bar; 1 the D.S.O.; 3 were Mentioned in Despatches.
