   Note:-This list does not include men from that part of the

  old parish connected with Preston– on Tees.

  George Archer

      Joined May, 1917, West Yorks. Prisoner in Germany,

      1918. Discharged invalided 1919.

  Alfred Armstrong

     Had been in the Regulars. Joined up August 1914.

     Northumberland Huzzars. Sergeant. Served in France and

     Flanders. Wounded and prisoner, March 1918. Got away,

     December 1918. Still in army.

  Herbert Atkinson

     Had been in Territorials. Joined Yorks. Regt. August

     1914. Served on the Western Front. Wounded, three times

     and died after wounds at Bournemouth. Buried in

     Egglescliffe Churchyard, April 11th 1918. Coy. Sergt.

     Major, D.C.M. and bar.

  Benjamin Ayton

     Joined Durham Light Infantry, November, 1914. France,

     1915. Fell in action, September 16th, 1916. Buried at

     Dermancourt near Albert

  William Bensley

     Joined early in 1917, M.G.C. Served in India, and is

     still there.

  Herbert Barnes

     Joined R.G.A., September 1914. Served in Jamaica,

     Palestine, France. Still with the army of occupation.

     Lieutenant.

  Albert Blackett

     Joined H.L. Infantry, February 1916. Discharged

     January 1919.

  Joseph Blackett

     Joined the Navy, February, 1916. H.M.S. “Umpire”. Served

     in the Grand Fleet. Discharged February, 1919.

  Guy Bolsover

     Was in the Royal Engineers at the outbreak of war.

     Lieut., R.G.A., August 1914. With a heavy battery in

     France, 1915. Captain, 1916. Commander, 7th Brigade,

     R.G.A., 1919. Wounded, Military Cross and mentioned in

     despatches, 1917. Took part in 2nd and 3rd Battles of

     Ypres. Somme, 1916. St Quintin and Paschendale, 1917.

     Givenchy and Mons, 1918.

  Harold Wilson Bolsover

     Joined Royal Naval Air Service, September, 1914.

     Discharged in illness in December. Joined as Private,

     A.S.C., in 1915. France and Flanders. Severely injured

     when in St. Omer Hospital, during air raid. Discharged,

     February, 1918.

     Master of the village school. Joined York and Lancs.

     Regt., January, 1917. Demobolized, January, 1919.

 Charles Beresford Bradley

     Joined the R.F.A., August, 1914. Served in France.

     Wounded. Demobolized, January, 1919.

 Harry Bradley

     Joined the R.F.A. served in France. Invalided, August,

     1916.

  Stanley Roberts Bradley

     Joined North Staffs., February, 1917. Served in France.

     Twice wounded. Still in army.

  Thomas Ernest Bradley

     Joined Australian I.F., August, 1914. Served in Egypt

     and France. Demobolized, 1919.

  Laurence Brown

     Joined the Yorks., May,1915. France. Twice wounded.

     Demobolized, March 1919.

  Walter Cartwright

     Joined Y. and L. Fusiliers, October, 1915. Saw service

     in France and Flanders. Taken prisoner at Kemmel Hill,

     April, 1918. Returned to England, December, 1918.

     Demobolized, February, 1919.

  Alfred William Clark (Fenny)

     Joined D.L.I., November, 1914. Transferred to K.O.Y.

     Was reported missing and presumed to have been killed,

     March 1915. Place and exact date unknown.

  Charles Close

     Wesleyan Minister. Chaplain to the Forces, June, 1917.

     Served in France. Still in army. M.M.

  Ernest Cordingly

     Joined IV. Yorks., in May, 1915. Transferred to V.

     Yorks. Was two years in France. Wounded and died, June

     4th, 1918. Buried at Rouen.

  Harry Cordingly

     Joined Training Reserves, February, 1917, and three

     weeks later died of cerebro-spinal fever. Buried at Yarm

     Cemetery.

  John Metcalf Crosby

     Joined the H. Art. C. as Private, February, 1916. Fell

     in action near Bapaume, July 24th, 1917.

     Transferred to X11 Yorks. Lieutenant then Captain.

     Mentioned three times in despatches. Demobolized,

     February, 1919.

     Joined Transport, A.S.C., August 1914. France and Egypt.

     Still in army.

  Alexander Davison

     Private, 2nd Gar. Bat., Northumberland Fusiliers, June,

     1916. Served in India and Mesopotamia. Corporal. Still

     in army.

  Edward Davison

     Joined Flying Corps. Service, August 1918. Served in

     France. Demobolized, 1919.

  Arthur James Dingle

     Joined 4th E. Yorks., September, 1914. Lieutenant. Went

     out to Gallipoli, 1915. Captain in August. Getting

     through the fighting after the Savla landing, fell in

     action, August 22nd, 1915.

  Hugh John Dingle

     Joined as Surg. Prob. H.M.S. “Drina”, August, 1914.

     Transferred to the destroyer “Cornet”, later to the

     “Marmion”. Was home for further training, 1916. Joined

     the “Petard” and fell in the destroyer action at end of

     Jutland Battle, June 1st, 1916. Buried South Queensferry

     Naval Cemetery.

  John Paxton Dobson

     Joined R.G.A., August 1916. France. With the army of

     occupation.

  Thomas King Dobson

     Joined H. Art. Cy., November 1914. Wounded in Flanders,

     May,1915. Lieutenant 1915 in R.G.Art., Gallipoli,

     October 1915. Cantara Desert and Macedonia later.

     Invalided home, September, 1916. Demobolized, January,

     1919.

  William Antony Dobson

     Joined as Private the Australian I.F., December, 1914.

     At Anzac in Gallipoli. Fell in action sometime between

     August 7-12, 1915.

  David Coatsworth Doughty

     A territorial. Joined IV Yorks, August, 1914. To France

     in April, 1915. Reported missing and presumed fell,

     April 24th, 1915, in 2nd battle of Ypres.

  Henry Percival Doughty

     Joined the Notts. And Derby Regt., December, 1915.

     To France, 1916. Wounded and fever. Discharged

     invalided, March, 1918.

     A Territorial. Joined IV Yorks., August, 1914. Served in

     France. Wounded, missing and presumed fell,

     September,20th, 1917 near Menin Road, 3rd battle of Ypres.

     Lance-Corporal.

     Joined XVIII Huzzars, September, 1914. Transferred to X.

     Fifteen months in France. Now with A.S.C. in India.

     Joined Work Bat., D.L.I., June, 1916. Home Service.

     Joined Northumberland Fusiliers, March, 1917. Had

     service in France. Still with the army.

     Joined V D.L.I., September, 1914. Lieutenant. To France,

     Fusiliers, 1916, on the Somme. Twice trench fever.

     while a prisoner, and buried there.

     Corps. Wounded severely, March, 1918.Invalided and

     discharged September 1918.

  Matthias Lyth Welford

     Joined D.L.I., August, 1917. Served on the Western

     Front. Was missing at 2nd Battle of the Somme, and

     presumed killed, March 21st, 1918.

  Anthony (Charles) Wiles

     Joined IX Yorks., June, 1915. Served in Italy and

     France. Killed in action, October 5th, 1918. Buried,

     Beauvoir Cemetery near St Quintin. Corporal.

  Norman Alexander Wiles

     Joined RF.A., Signaller, April, 1916. On Western Front.

     Severely wounded near St Quintin, September, 1918. Still

     in hospital.

  George Thomas Wilkinson

     Joined XII Yorks., 1914. Discharged, December, 1915.

     Returned to the army, March, 1918. Killed in action,

     September 4th, 1918. Buried at Bois du Sart, near Arras.

  Alec B. Hutton Wilson

     Joined as private, R.F., September, 1914. Lieutenant in

     Royal Engineers, December. Served in Macedonia.

     Discharged, March, 1917. Rejoined August 1917. Service

     in France up to January 1919. Acting Captain.

  Arthur H. Hutton Wilson

     In regular army. Lieut.-Colonel Wiltshires. Served on

     General Staff in France and Flanders at headquarters,

     and later on lines of Communication. Three times

     mentioned in despatches and D.S.O.

  Geoffrey Hutton Wilson

     Joined R.E. Signal section, December, 1915. Lieutenant.

     Served in East Africa from May, 1916. Died at sea on the

     way home, December 23rd, 1918.    

  Thomas Woodward

     Joined R.E., July, 1915. Served in France and Belgium.

     Corporal. Demobolized, February, 1919.
