Notes

1. An unusual feature of this Calvary is that the head is raised in triumph, not bowed in sorrow.

2. The men who returned received a letter from St.Oswalds dated 21st February 1919, welcoming them back and saying that they had possibly not received a visit because it was impossible to visit everybody personally.

3. The names from the Memorial have been transcribed into a Book of Remembrance see W111.38. The names agree with what can be seen on the Memorial faces and the list prepared before the memorial was built.

4. The list reads John J. Hanson but the Book and the Memorial face reads John J. Hansom.
