1. This memorial covers the parish of Grindon. The original parish church of Grindon has been a ruin since the late 1880s; the church at Thorpe Thewles became the mother church for the parish in 1848. There has never been a parish of Thorpe Thewles. This memorial therefore covers Thorpe Thewles, Wynyard Hall Estate; Wynyard Station; Carlton Station. Other hamlets in Grindon Parish include Grindon, Fulthorpe and Embleton.
