Notes

1. In 2016 County Councillor Ossie Johnson and county Councillor Richard Young decided to use some of their Neighbourhood Budgets to mark the centenary of the WW1 Armistice in 2018 by redeveloping the memorial on the village green to include the names of those who were remembered in the community, not only from the two world ward but also in more recent conflicts. Lanchester Parish Council Working Group including members of the Parish Council, local organisations and members of the community first met in December 2016 to consider designs for the revised memorial and the criteria for the inclusion of names.
It was decided to add the full names from the Memorials in Lanchester, Malton and Knitsley plus some others buried in the Churchyard and Cemetery. The Names which had been read out every Remembrance Day from the 1950s included some who had no proven connection to Lanchester in 1914-18, however as the names had been read out for so long all were included.

2. The new Memorial was re-dedicated on Friday October 19th 2018. The three Churches in the Parish led the service. Representatives from the schools and organisations in the Parish were in attendance. The Lord Lieutenant of County Durham, Mrs Sue Snowdon was present.
