Names

Notes

1. The school was named as a memorial to Rev. R. Gray, former Rector of Sunderland Parish. History & Topography of the County of Durham, 1894, Whellan

2. The school was originally built in Vine Street in 1822. It grew much larger and eventually moved in 1853 to another site on the Town Moor, when the Vine Street buildings were sold.

3. This is a standard design of plaque, produced by Cowell and Gatiss of Sunderland; the roundels in each corner and the flags were probably red. For a similar plaque, see S140.053
