He was the son of Margaret Laing, of Widdrington, and the late George Laing.
Morpeth Herald 22/12/1916 carries a brief obituary:
Mr and Mrs Laing, of Lee Street, Annitsford [sic], have received official news that their son, Private [sic] Wm Laing, NF, has been killed in action.
He is remembered at Widdrington on W54.01
