In Tynemouth (Preston) Cemetery is a headstone which reads:

In
Loving memory of
Sarah Ann
beloved wife of
George H. Walker
died Aug. 22nd 1915
aged 62 years.
John P. Walker, son, killed in action
Oct. 13th 1916 aged 33 years.
Stanley H. Walker, son
died Jan. 13th 1919 aged 28 years.
George H. Walker, husband
died Feb. 1st 1935 aged 81 years.
also Thomas F. Walker
son of the above George H.
died Oct. 30th aged 90 years.

John Penman Walker was born on the 24th November 1883 at 29 Camden Lane, Tynemouth. He married Sarah Chater on the 22nd December 1906. There were four children: ?John (1907); Sarah Alice (1910); Emily Elizabeth (1912) and Jane (1915).

9th (Service) Battalion Black Watch.

This was formed at Perth on the 13th September 1914 as part of K2 and came under command of 44th Brigade in 15th (Scottish) Division. It moved to Aldershot, Liss, Chisledon, and Tidworth by May 1915 and landed at Boulogne on the 8th July 1915.

In 1916 between the 9th of October and the 5th November they were on the Somme in the Le Sars Sector.
