Hewison, G., A/Smn., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1020 Able Seaman George Hewison, serving with Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/11/1916.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

George was born on 30th October 1891 and was working as a miner living with his father, George at West View, Earsdon when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 2nd November 1914.

He joined the 4th Platoon, 'B' Company of the Collingwood Battalion on 4th February 1915 and was landed at Malta on 14th June 1915 suffering from indigestion and dental problems. George was invalided to the UK on 21st June 1915 because of these dental problems and subsequently lost all of the teeth in his upper jaw.

He joined the Hood Battalion on 25th February 1916 and was killed in action in France on 13th November 1916.

George Hewison is remembered in Earsdon on E3.01, E3.02 and E3.03
