Sharp, J., A/Smn., 1917
In Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez if the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/1239 Able Seaman James Sharp, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 24/04/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

James was born on 22nd May 1895. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Thomas and Margaret at 5, Emmerson Road, Newbiggin by the Sea when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 7th November 1914.

He joined "A" Company of the Hawke Battalion on 3rd May 1915 and was invalided to the UK from Gallipoli on 28th August 1915 suffering from Dysentery.

James joined the Nelson Battalion in France on 5th December 1916 and served until 31st January 1917 when he was hospitalised (undisclosed reason).

James rejoined the Nelson Battalion on 9th February 1917 and was posted as missing assumed killed in action on 24th April 1917.

James Sharp is remembered in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea on N10.06 and N10.14
