ASHINGTON

Harrison, G., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of KX/436 Able Seaman George Harrison, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

Margaret Allison states that he lived with his wife Mary at 16 Ninth Row Ashington, and was aged 24 when he died.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

George was born on October 27th 1891. He was working as a miner living with his wife, Mary at 5, Long Row, Ashington when he re-enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers (3 years previous service) on September 2nd 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on September 9th 1914 and joined the Hood Battalion on the same day.

George was posted as missing assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on June 4th 1915.

It seems that at some stage Mary moved from the Long Row address to Ninth Row.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
